As Maurice Merlau-Ponty has argued, when a person decides to follow a path in life, obstacles might occur in his way. If the person doesn’ t have the power to overcome them but neither to give up his choice, he remains blocked in the same effort and uses all his strength to mentally renew it. It is as Merlau-Ponty calls it, this back and forth of the existence between the physiological and the psychological, between body and mind.
This performance tried to unveil this “empty time”, the pause that occupies our lives whenever something radical strikes it with body and mind in constant fight and resistence.
Discerption: Twenty people wore the cement cloths, sat on the white chairs and followed the video projected on the façade of the opposite building. Fragments of dialogues with a silent interlocutor were coming from the loud speakers placed on the floor. Every movement the people did seemed as if dipped into the water. They were transformed into passive spectators of an ever-ending event, trapped for a moment in the same loop of a sequence. As time was passing by, they slowly started to leave the space until cloths and chairs were piled up and the artist remained seated among them experiencing the solitude of the witness.
Materials: cloths covered with cement, white chairs, a window shop and a projection on the opposite building of the window.
