Group exhibition The Visit, Aggelos and Lito Katakouzinou Foundation, Athens 2010, curated by Kosmas Nikolaou
Description: This work was developed in the form of photographs arranged around the sitting room of a wealthy apartment back from the 70s in Athens. A meeting place of the high and intellectual society at that time. Furniture, personal objects and family photos already existed in the space and the work had to be integrated.
The pictures were received in real and fictional environments while wearing a traditional uniform from the mainland of Greece. Real sheep and fake ones are altering in the pictures creating a dialogue with the real paintings and photos of the family on the walls of the house.
Tradition, identity and lost memory were some of the issues that this work was trying to raise. The exploitation of the countryside from the bourgeois middle class at the beginning of 20th century is here constantly balancing with the nostalgic atmosphere of the pastoral life.
During the opening of the exhibition, I performed the service of the house dressed up with the same traditional uniform and offering small chocolate biscuits in the form of a sheep to the visitors.
