ANATASI

Performance-installation by The Girls, 2019

Momus, Museum of Modern Art, Thessaloniki

Duration: 1 hr
Music: Konstantinos Ifantis
Photos: Alexandros Pantelios

The performance was based on the exhibition Spring Torrents presented at the Momus Museum of Modern Art in Thessaloniki, 28/9/18- 7/4/19.

The performance follows a similar path to that of an exhibition seen as a historical document rather than an artistic event. After covering all the works of the exhibition, the artists created an installation that presented an “epitaph” (a tribute to a “dead” revolution) with the image of Harvey Hacker’s fist in the center. Paper stencils created on the spot became the flower decoration while the artists sang along using the word strike. When the process concluded, they carried the epitach throughout the museum, writing slogans on the streets and the museum walls. At the end the audience walked under the epitaph and then the artists burned it. They intented to praise the subject of the exhibition but at the same time resist to its aestheticization.
