Inspired by the Pärnu Museum’s exhibits, and more specifically by a small female statue of the stone age honorably named Madonna, the artists decided to recreate four famous art world madonnas as living statues. The Ecstasy of Saint Teresa by Gian Lorenzo Bernini, The Madonna della Seggiola by Raphael, The Madonna & Child by Jean Fouquet, and The Madonna of the Cross by Malcolm Brocklesby.Madonna, this powerful image of mother, a moral, aesthetic, and sociological western heritage, is presented here as a figure frozen in time. The artists stand still and try, as time passes, to maintain their perfect posture and expression. An intruder will repeatedly attempt to distort these images with harassment and occasionally violent attacks. The performance will end with these eternal images showing signs of decay.
