Exploring The Abandoned Body

Site-specific installation with mixed media, 2003

The installation took place in two abandoned houses, former offices, at Stasinopoulos’ Warehouses in N.Kosmos, Athens

The artist, although still a student at the school of fine arts, worked for months inside these houses in order to use the materials and information she collected from the site itself and combine them with personal memories and traumas. The artist treated the space as an “abandoned body”, a body that was often dissected and rebuilt to serve everyday needs. The changes were transformed into new objects that were positioned to simply hide the previous ones. Nothing, however, was thrown away. The house/body was in fact a growing pile of things; a body stacked with fragments of memory, individual and collective.
